I have been helping people design and build or renovate homes in Victoria for over 30 years. Designing your dream home can be both challenging and rewarding. I have successfully completed a number of projects working with clients every step of the way.

Choosing a Site:
Finding the right piece of land to suit your design needs is important . Different parcels of land allow different types of uses and building sizes. Building a home according to what is currently permitted can makes projects simpler by not having to get planning approvals from the municipality. I can help you consider different scenarios to help with your decision.

Making the Site Work for You:
The perfect piece of land will sometimes not allow the perfect home. Municipalities have zoning bylaws that control the types of buildings permitted on each piece of land under their jurisdiction. As a landowner you can apply to a municipality to change what is permitted on your property. I have worked with clients to help them through this process on a number of projects. For more complex proposals, I work closely with professionals who have a lot of experience working with municipalities.

Coming up with the Concept:
Every project I work on is unique. When developing a concept for a new home or renovation, I work with you to integrate the natural and manmade features of the property and surrounding properties into the design. This is the creative phase of the project where I spend a lot of time with clients interpreting their dreams into reality.

Drawings and Models:
Art is the best way to open a client’s eyes to the possibilities. Depending on the project, I often use renderings or massing models to help clients see what their new home will look like when completed.

Detailed Drawings:
Detailed drawings transform the client’s concepts into something that can be used to get a building permit, line up a contractor and give the builders instructions. I produce professional drawings accepted by all municipalities and used by all contractors and builders. I have worked with drawings all my life and take pride in getting the details right.

Choosing a Contractor:
Most contracts can build your home but they are all different. Like every chef will prepare a dish with their own flair, every contractor has their style of construction and approach to the project. I will help you to understand the differences and help you choose the right contractor for your project.

Supervising Construction:
With custom homes, many small decisions are made on the construction site. I am often asked to take a supervising role to ensure decisions are made in the client’s best interest.
